History
I grew up in the 70's in a place that should have had ospreys but didn't.
The pesticide DDT had nearly wiped them out by causing their eggs to
be too brittle to hold the weight of the parent bird. The nests that
had been used for generations were barren.
Domestics
Now, the nests are starting to be inhabited again. Ospreys can successfully
live with us. They often build nests in man-made structures such as
telephone poles and lighting structures.
The Project
All of the plants used in this project come from my yard, and they are
all species alien to North America. The images and sounds of the lawn
grooming equipment and the ospreys all come from central Florida, where
they both are in great abundance.
